Fochteloo – Zondagmiddag omstreeks 16.15 uur werd de brandweer gealarmeerd voor een natuurbrand in het Fochteloërveen.
 
Door de droogte werd er al snel besloten om op te schalen naar ‘middel-brand’ en niet veel later naar ‘grote-brand’. Hierop rukten meerdere waterwagens uit om de tankauto’s te voorzien van voldoende bluswater. Korpsen uit Appelscha, Haulerwijk, Norg, Veenhuizen en Vledder werden ingezet.

In totaal gingen enkele honderden vierkante meters in vlammen op. Over de oorzaak van de brand is niets bekend geworden.
