"Istanbul: Ahmet Koca was walking home with his family when police stopped him. When the officers heard Koca speaking on the phone in Kurdish, they called him a terrorist and began severely beating him. Koca was knocked to the ground and stamped on repeatedly by about 5 officers. He was then handcuffed and put into a police vehicle. Rather than taking him to the police station, the officers took him to an unknown location which Koca described as a "dark, empty room". He was continually beaten by the officers for about 2 hours before he was thrown out of the car in front of Haseki hospital in Istanbul."

Turkse agenten geschorst na geweld

ISTANBUL -  De politie in het Turkse Istanbul heeft zeven agenten geschorst, nadat een omstander filmde hoe ze met buitensporig veel geweld een taxichauffeur arresteerden.

Op de beelden is te zien hoe de man al liggend op grond minutenlang wordt geschopt en geslagen. De groezelige beelden zijn inmiddels uitgezonden op de nationale televisie van Turkije en leidden in heel het land tot verontwaardigde reacties.
De agenten hadden de man aan de kant gezet omdat hij hen geen voorrang zou hebben verleend. De chauffeur was op dat moment met een zwanger familielid onderweg naar het ziekenhuis. Hij beweert dat het geweld begon toen de agenten hem in het Koerdisch hoorden praten.
De politieleiding onderzoekt het incident en heeft de betrokken agenten tot nader orde geschorst.

AMSTERDAM De mobiele eenheid is vanochtend uitgerukt om zo'n 15 kraakpanden in Amsterdam te ontruimen.
Het is nog onbekend welk rondje er precies door de stad wordt gemaakt, maar op de Ruysdaelstraat (6 panden) in de Pijp en de Lange Leidsesdwarsstraat (twee panden) in het centrum zijn al ontruimingen geweest of zijn er al voorbereidingen getroffen. Ook staan er panden aan de Cruquiusweg, Jacob van Lennepstraat, Oostenburgervoorstraat en Ferdinand Bolstraat op het lijstje om ontruimd te worden.
Bij de ontruimingen heeft de politie tot nu toe ongeveer tien krakers opgepakt die weigerden hun kraakpand te verlaten. Een van de arrestanten werd volgens een politiewoordvoerder gearresteerd in een van de ontruimde kraakpanden aan de Ruysdaelstraat. In de loop van de ochtend werden nog acht tot tien personen aangehouden in een kraakpand op de Lange Leidsedwarsstraat.
In totaal zijn in Amsterdam sinds de invoering van de nieuwe wet Kraken en Leegstand in oktober 2010, 330 kraakpanden ontruimd.

Cop critically wounded in El Cajon
EL CAJON, Calif. - An El Cajon officer was hospitalized in critical condition Monday after being shot in the neck by a gunman who also burned down a house and who may have died in the violent rampage that he initiated, police said.

The El Cajon Police Department received a call reporting suspicious activity just after 5 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of  Prince Street near Interstate 8, police said. The caller said a man with a gun entered the house and started a fire.
The gunman fired several shots at responding officers, striking one in the head, according to an El Cajon Police Department statement. The wounded officer's partner pulled him out of the line of fire with the help of a resident.

More officers arrived and the injured officer was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent surgery, police said. He was listed in critical but stable condition Monday morning. His name was not immediately released.
The house from which the gunman fired became fully engulfed in flames, but firefighters backed up by a water-dropping helicopter kept the blaze from spreading to nearby homes, which were evacuated, police said.

The El Cajon SWAT team entered the house and found the body of an man near the front door. Because of extensive damage it was not known if the body was that of the gunman, police said.
Initial reports indicated that the gunman may have shot a woman and child inside the house, but investigators did not say if they found additional bodies in the ruins of the house.
The Red Cross was providing food and shelter to people evacuated from their homes because of the fire.

Tja, die heli is even wat veiliger als een brandweerman in de vuurlinie laten blussen.

Wel een bizarre casus, blussen onder bewaking van het swat team... Ben eigenlijk wel benieuwd hoe zoiets hier aangepakt zou worden.
