Two boys suspected in an arson Wednesday that razed an abandoned McDonald's restaurant adjacent to Abbottsfield Mall are too young to be charged.
Police believe a nine-year-old and an 11-year-old are responsible for the blaze that started in a pile of plastic trays that had been left on the loading docks at the rear of the building.
Flames crawled up the exterior wall into the attic and brought down the east side of the building, causing an estimated$800,000 damage at 34th Street and 118th Avenue.
"The fire actually travelled very quickly up into the roof space and then travelled quickly across," Capt. John Yaschuk said.
"That kind of particular fire is very difficult to fight."
Police have talked to the parents of the boys, police spokeswoman Patrycia Thenu said.
