Three buildings on fire in SF's Western AdditionSAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Firefighters are on the scene of a five-alarm fire involving multiple structures in San Francisco.
The fire was initially reported at a four-story apartment building along the 1100 block of Elm Street in the Western addition neighborhood. The blaze broke out shortly before noon on Thursday.
Fueled by wind gusts around 20 miles per hour, the fire quickly spread to a nearby apartment building and a school in the area.
Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene. One person was treated for smoke inhalation and two firefighters were transported to St. Francis hospital with unknown injuries. One firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation and another suffered from burns. Both injuries are considered to be minor.
Just before a fourth alarm was called, all firefighters were ordered out of the structures. Jeanne Seyler with the San Francisco Fire Department told the Associated Press she believed all residents of the initial structure were evacuated.
Golden Gate Street between Scott and Steiner is closed, and Pierce between McAllister and Eddy is also closed.
An elderly care facility along the 1400 block of McAllister Street was evacuated due to heavy smoke.
ABC7 has several crews on scene and will have updates throughout the day on ABC7NEWS.COM.
