CNN) – An entire community cut off, firefighters huddled on the side of a mountain after water swept their truck away, and — with rescue helicopters grounded — no way to reach them.

This is the scene facing authorities Thursday in Boulder County, Colorado, in the wake of what's called a “devastating storm” that dumped more than half a foot of rain on the region during a 19-hour period.

At least 37 people have died while 10 bodies have been recovered so far after a fire engulfed psychiatric hospital.

A fire at a Russian psychiatric hospital has killed 37 people, the top investigative agency in the province where the blaze occurred said.

The bodies of 10 of the 37 victims were recovered from the ruins of the building that burned down in a pre-dawn fire, the Novgorod regional branch of Russia's Investigative Committee said in a statement, without giving details on the other 27 victims.

Gisteren op het nieuws hier in Portland Oregon. Dit soort dingen gebeurdt dus niet alleen in Nederland.

Crews responded to welfare call around 12: 25 p.m. after a man complained of failing health near Northeast 135th Avenue and East Burnside Street. Halfway into the medical examination the man ran off, climbed into a fire bureau SUV and tried to throw it into gear.

Smoke bellows across west London as major chemical fire sees residents evacuated

Residents were evacuated from their homes today after a chemical fire released thick black smoke over a large swathe of west London.
Eight fire engines and 58 firefighters tackled the blaze at an industrial estate in Midland Terrace, Park Royal after it broke out just before 9am.
The fire is understood to involve a biodiesel fuel company and thick black smoke was visible over large parts of northwest and west London.
Ten homes were evacuated, but there were no reported injuries.
Nearby residents were told to close windows and doors to keep smoke out. Half of the unit’s ground floor and the roof were alight.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Elif devoted her life to helping others, particularly people in developing countries suffering from malaria and HIV/AIDS. She had originally worked with our Health Access Initiative during her doctoral studies, and we were so pleased that she had recently rejoined us as a senior vaccines researcher based in Tanzania. Duits dorp ontruimd om brand


Het Duitse dorp Harthausen in de buurt van Ludwigshafen is in zijn geheel ontruimd. Alle 3000 inwoners moesten het dorp verlaten vanwege een brand en de daaropvolgende gasexplosie.

Zestien brandweermannen raakten gewond, van wie een zeer ernstig. Volgens de brandweer is de man niet meer in levensgevaar

Trein ontspoord in Voeren
 
Een goederentrein met auto's is dinsdagochtend bij het Belgische dorpje Remersdaal, 17 kilometer ten zuidoosten van Maastricht, door een treinbotsing ontspoord. De ravage is enorm. Drie wagons met auto's stortten dwars door de reling van een brug zeker 20 tot 25 meter naar beneden, meldden Vlaamse media.

Andere wagons staan verwrongen op het zwaar beschadigde spoor. Er zijn geen doden of gewonden gevallen. De bovenleiding is geknapt.

Naar het zich laat aanzien is de ontspoorde trein ingereden op een stilstaande trein. Die wachtte op een sein om een spoortunnel te mogen inrijden.

Burgemeester Huub Broers van Voeren, waaronder Remersdaal valt, verwacht dat het treinverkeer op dit traject lange tijd stil zal liggen als gevolg van de ravage. De locatie is moeilijk bereikbaar en omgeven door weilanden.

Het ongeval had plaats op het stuk van de goederenspoorlijn van Antwerpen naar Duitsland dat vlak onder de Nederlandse grens loopt.
