Police: Shots fired inside Houston Intercontinental Airport
Shots have been fired inside Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport this afternoon, according to breaking news reports coming out of Houston.
Houston police tell Houston's KHOU TV the one person was injured in what they said was a self-inflicted shooting. It happened in a security checkpoint area in Terminal B.
The shooter walked in and fired two shots in the air and then
shot himself in the head with a pistol, police said.
Police said an air marshal fired at the suspect, but missed. That's when the man pulled out a gun and shot himself, according to AP.
As for 3:10 p.m. ET, the Federal Aviation Administration had issued a "ground stop" for flights bound for Houston Bush Intercontinental, citing "security" as the reason. Flights leaving out of Houston remain unaffected and flights already in the air for Houston Bush typically would land as scheduled under normal ground-stop procedures.
If the duration of the ground stop is short, disruptions at the airport likely would be minimal. Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport officials tells MyFoxHouston that flight traffic there was operating as normal as of 3:20 p.m. ET.
