Twelve people were killed in a shooting Monday morning, and a number of others injured, at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington D.C., a Washington Police chief told reporters. Among those shot are two police officers.

Washington Navy Yard Incident


Washington, D.C., September 16, 2013 – The following information was provided by Dr. Janis Orlowski, Chief Medical Officer/Chief Operating Officer of MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She spoke at an 11:30 a.m. press briefing regarding the incident at the Washington Navy Yard this morning.

MedSTAR Trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center has received three patients:

•   One male Metropolitan Police Department officer with gunshot wounds to the leg, who is now in the operating room.

•   One female civilian with gunshot wounds to the shoulder, who is also in the operating room.

•   One female civilian with gunshot wounds to the head and hand, who will be going to the operating room.

All are in critical condition but are expected to survive their injuries.
