Incident: China Southern A388 near Malmo on Jul 8th 2015, smoke detector indication
A China Southern Airbus A380-800, registration B-6137 performing flight CZ-346 from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Beijing (China) with 354 people on board, was enroute at FL330 about 25nm east of Malmo (Sweden) when the crew received a smoke detector indication and decided to divert to Hamburg (Germany), about 190nm southwest of their position. Cabin crew was able to identify that the indication was false. The flight crew aborted the descent towards Hamburg and decided to return to Amsterdam stating that this was not an emergency and no assistance was needed, the aircraft landed safely on Amsterdam's runway 27, emergency services were on stand by, about 2:15 hours after departure.
Passengers reported about 45 minutes into the flight a siren activated after a smoke detector had indicated smoke. Cabin crew reacted immediately and checked the area identifying that the indication had been false. The aircraft subsequently returned to Amsterdam where firefighters boarded the aircraft and checked the area again.
