21 October 2016Three fire engines and a range of specialist appliances were called to reports of a chemical incident at London City Airport this afternoon.Around 500 members of the public and staff were evacuated and London Ambulance Service crews treated a number of patients for difficulty breathing.Two complete sweeps of the Airport building were carried out jointly by firefighters and police officers both wearing protective equipment. No elevated readings were found and the building was ventilated, searched and declared safe.The Brigade was called at 1611 and the incident was over by 1900. Firefighters from Hornsey, East Ham, Stratford, Bethnal Green and Stratford fire stations were in attendance.
21 October 2016Statement at 7.15pmAssistant Director of Operations Paul Gibson said:"We have now treated a total of 27 patients at the incident at London City Airport this evening."We sent a number of resources to the scene including two single responders in cars, four ambulance crews, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team (medics specially trained to treat people in hazardous situations)."All patients were treated for minor breathing difficulties and two were taken to hospital.“The incident is now stood down.”Ends
Officers from the Met’s Aviation Policing Command are investigating after London City Airport was temporarily evacuated this afternoon.Police were called shortly after 16:00hrs on Friday, 21 October to London City Airport to reports of a number of passengers and staff feeling unwell. Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended.A number of people were treated at the scene.The airport was evacuated and was reopened at approximately 19:00hrs.A subsequent search of the airport led to the discovery of what is believed to be a CS gas or spray. Whilst the cause of the incident has not yet been confirmed, officers are investigating if it was the result of an accidental discharge of this cannister.At this early stage officers are investigating whether it may have been discarded by a passenger prior to check-in.There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.

Four people were killed at a theme park on Australia's popular Gold Coast Tuesday, police said, with witnesses describing how "everyone was screaming" after a raft apparently flipped on a malfunctioning water ride.

A major police investigation continues on the Gold Coast following the tragic death of four people at a theme park this afternoon.Regional Duty Officer Inspector Tod Reid said that two women, aged 42 and 32, and two men aged 38 and 35 had died at the scene as a result of an incident on one of the theme parks water rides.Specialist forensic and scientific officers, as well as detectives are currently at the scene.Investigators are interviewing a number of witnesses at nearby police stations with support services also being offered.The State Coroner and the Queensland Government’s Forensic Pathologist also attended the scene.Police will prepare a report for the coroner and there is no other information that can be released at this stage.Initial media release issued 4.20pm todayPolice are currently investigating an incident that occurred this afternoon at a theme park on the Gold Coast.Police were called to the site at Coomera around 2.20pm following reports that a number of people had been injured by a conveyor belt.Four adults have been confirmed as being deceased.Police and other emergency services remain on the scene and no further information can be released at this stage.
