One major European expression of international solidarity is the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (EUCPM) which provides the legal and operational framework for civil protection assistance side and outside the European Union.
Commissioned by the European Commission Trimension will organize three field exercises for Urban Search & Rescue Teams (USAR), technical assistance and support team (TAST) and European Civil Protection Teams (EUCPT). Field exercises will lead to a more effective response through working by agreed standards of cooperation in civil protection assistance interventions. Furthermore, these exercises provide a great opportunity to train and increase interoperability among all participants, including EUCPT experts and TAST’s.
The Trimodex exercises consist of three realistic exercises for USAR teams, TAST teams and the EUCPT in the period of 2015/2016. All three exercises will take place for four days (including a non-disrupted exercise play of at least 36 hours) and will provide the possibility to test the 24/7 capacity of the teams and modules. As requested by the Commission, the Trimodex exercises also contain a CBRN component. This means that the USAR teams will have the challenge to operate in an environment threatened by CBRN components or contaminated with them. The scenario could be adapted to the wishes and possibilities of the participating teams. For example, if your USAR team isn’t able to work in CBRN conditions, we can adapt the scenario and introduce the threat of a release of dangerous goods.
