Geen idee of ik dit post in het juiste topic.
Voor liefhebbers van extreem weer: Een zware orkaan zal het Arabisch schiereiland treffen binnen enkele dagen.
De naam van de cycloon is Chapala, de verwachting is dat Chapala in de nacht van maandag op dinsdag aan land komt (Oman, Yemen). Momenteel is Chapala categorie 4, experts verwachten dat Chapala binnen enkele uren categorie 5 gaat worden.
Experts verwachten dat dit extreme weer zal zorgen dat er in 48 uur meer regen valt dan normaal gesproken in 8 jaar valt.
Regen en forse daling van temperatuur zijn grote problemen voor de Golfstaten. Een aantal landen ligt in de baan van Chapala (VAE en KSA), Qatar krijgt te maken met zware regenval en daling van temperatuur (experts geven aan rekening te houden dat 15 graden Celsius mogelijk kan zijn).
In Golfstaten kent men eigenlijk geen regenwaterafvoer, forse regenval zorgt snel voor overstromingen. Daling van temperatuur zorgt vaak voor veel CO-doden omdat mensen het koud krijgen en BBQ of vuurkorf in woningen aansteken als verwarmingsbron.

Hoe gaat de overheid c.q. de gezondheidszorg hiermee om in deze regio? Vinden er bijvoorbeeld preventieve maatregelen plaats ten aanzien van CO intoxicaties?

In Qatar niet. Als ambulancedienst sturen we bij vermoeden CO-intoxicatie HART-paramedics.

The operation of evacuation of Al-Halaniyat Island's residents to Shelim has been completed by the Royal Air Force. 138 citizens and 71 foreigners were evacuated by air from Al Halaniyat Islands in total of 10 Flights.

Chapala is momenteel equivalent van cat.3 orkaan, morgen treft Chapala Yemen i.p.v. eerdere voorspellingen de kust van Oman en Yemen. In Yemen gaat in 48 uur meer regen vallen dan normaal gesproken in 10 jaar. Experts denken dat Chapala afgezwakt was omdat sinds gisteren zand in de orkaan is gezogen. Door de regenval vandaag zuigt de orkaan geen zand meer op. Experts maken zich zorgen omdat ze op beelden een extreem dikke 'wand' zien rondom het oog van de orkaan. Een orkaan kan alleen in kracht toenemen boven (warme) zee, het zeewater is momenteel 2 graden warmer dan normaal.

UN Expresses Concern Over Effects of Hurricane Tshabalala on Yemen
Doha, November 01 (QNA) - The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) expressed concern at the damage expected to be caused by the arrival of Hurricane Tshabalala at areas of northern Yemen in the coming hours, which could lead to a new food crisis adds to the suffering of Yemeni cities due to the ongoing conflict there.
Talking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), WFP regional spokeswoman Abeer Etefa said that a range of scenarios had been prepared to deal with the potential effects of the cyclone, especially that areas of northern Yemen are suffering from severe food shortages which the hurricane would exacerbate.
Etefa pointed out that Oman's Port of Salalah, which lies within the scope of hurricane Tshabalala , is the main artery for humanitarian aid supply to Yemen and in a case of its closure, the WFP's projects in Yemen will experience heavily damage.
She stated that the WFP provided humanitarian assistance to Yemen since the beginning of military operations from early April until the end of September 2015, noting that almost around one million people benefit from this assistance every month and this number rose to nearly two million people during last October.
The WFP regional spokeswoman added that the program focuses on families that suffered food insecurity, saying according to recent estimates, 7.6 million people suffered severe food insecurity, a level of need requiring urgent external food assistance.
Etefa noted that 10 out of 22 Yemeni governorates are now classified as phase 4 of early warning. According to WFP ratings, these governorates are one step below areas of famine, which the international community is considering a consequence of failing to deliver the necessary assistance to the affected people in the conflict- areas, Etefa said.
About the necessary funding to cover needs of Yemeni people, she said that the funding is still limited, urging concerned countries to fulfil their obligations to fill the food gap growing in the world, while citing that the WFP main funding is depending on the Saudi assistance worth about USD140 million.(QNA)

Muscat, November 01 (QNA) - A number of ships of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) sailed from Said bin Sultan Naval Base today heading to the Governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta to provide support in dealing with the adverse climate conditions (Chapala Cyclone) being witnessed by the Sultanate, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.
The Omani Ministry of Defence and SAF have mobilized all potentials with other Government agencies within the framework of the necessary preparations to deal with the tropical cyclone. (QNA)

“Hospitals in Auqad, Saada, Garbiya, New salalah and Dahariz are working round the clock on an emergency situation, while Sultan Qaboos Hospital is equipped with handling additional 1000 patients at a time,” said the source. Till now there is no emergency call from anywhere but the health officials are ready 24/7 to receive calls and attend patients.

WHO scales up preparedness in Yemen for cyclone Chapala
Sana'a, 2 October 2015 — The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Public Health and Population in Yemen are intensifying efforts to respond to the serious consequences of Cyclone Chapala which is expected to hit parts of the country in the coming days.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the effects of this cyclone will be felt over large parts of Yemen. The effects are likely to be more severe in Shabwah and Hadhramaut, which have a combined population of about 1.8 million people. This includes more than 100 000 internally displaced persons and 27 000 refugees and migrants.
In preparation for the health impact of the cyclone, WHO has delivered trauma kits for 1000 patients in the Mukalla district of Hadramout governorate. The organization is also providing 20 000 litres of diesel to 8 hospitals to ensure their continued functionality, as well as 2500 litres of petrol in order for 16 ambulances to continue to provide emergency services.
A Strategic Health Operations Centre (SHOC) is being established in the WHO office in Sana’a while the Ministry of Health continues to function from its WHO-supported operations room. In addition, WHO’s sub-office in Aden is on alert and working with partner agencies in the south to finalize their plans.
"We are in a regular contact with the health authorities in Mukalla and rapid response teams from the Ministry of Health to provide health information and carry out constant surveillance and assessment," said Dr Ahmed Shadoul, WHO Representative for Yemen. "WHO, health partners and health authorities are on high alert to ensure preparedness measures are in place and provide a timely response."

Up to 1.1 million people affected by Cyclone Chapala in Socotra Island, Hadramaut and Shabwah governorates.
More than 36,000 people are reported displaced and housed in public buildings or with host families.
Medical supplies, water and sanitation kits, NFIs and tents, and high energy biscuits have been pre-positioned or are on their way to most affected areas.
An airlift is being prepared to reach Socotra Island.
