Within the General Infrastructure Services Department (GS), the Fire Brigade is on call 24/7 for all firefighting emergencies, accidents and incidents of all types and to guarantee personnel safety. It takes part in various general safety activities, in particular training, the drafting of operational procedures, forecasting of requirements, prevention, and collaboration with the Fire Brigades of the Organization's Host States (France and Switzerland).
The Service comprises professional firefighters from various CERN Member States and this pool of firefighters therefore also represents a forum for the exchange of experience and professional practice within European fire brigades.
Functieomschrijving
As a firefighter within an international team, the successful candidate will take part in the following activities:
Firefighting and personal rescue activities;
Interventions related to particular risks associated with CERN installations (radiation protection, cryogenics, electricity, unusual types of fires);
All the logistic tasks associated with a fire and rescue service;
Training of the Organization's personnel in the successful candidate’s areas of expertise;
Various safety-related tasks according to the Organization's requirements;
Acquiring knowledge of the various facilities (through training and patrols).
These activities will also include continuous on-the-job training, in particular relating to specific risks.
Eisen
Complete training as a professional firefighter. Other professional expertise (in mechanics, the building industry, etc.) would be an advantage.
Experience and knowledge
At least five years’ practical experience of fire fighting and fire prevention;
qualifications and experience in the field of first aid and traffic accident rescue and ambulance call-outs;
A heavy-goods vehicle licence;
Personal skills needed for working in a community;
Good knowledge of English or French; basic knowledge of the other language or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly. Contactpersoon
