FIRE BRIGADE: North Wales
TYPE: Light 6x6 Pump
CHASSIS: Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer
BODY: Saxon
YEAR: 1998
STATION: Denbigh

Ah, the good old Pinzgauer. Even slower then a snail, but will simply get everywhere you want it to go.
Do you know if there are more that are still used today?

They have one in Royal Berkshire (near London) plus another in Hereford & Worcester, but they are very rare in England. The Isle of Man Fire Brigade love them however, they have about 8 in service as the island is very small and rural.

Pinzgauers aren't slow anymore.
The producten has been changed from SDP to the UK (BAE systems?) and has had a revision of engines and gearbox.
As far as I know, the UK built vehicles all had modern TDI engines (provided by VAG/Volkswagen) and an automatic transmission (by Allison). Both the 4x4 and 6x6 were still built in the UK, with a few revisions of the body using GRP panels on the sides and roof.

Never knew about the updated Pinzgauers. All the vehicle needed was a stronger (and faster) engine/gearbox, so that makes it the perfect vehicle for rough terrain in my opinion.

Why didn't they choose for a Mercedes-Benz Unimog?

Why didn't they choose for a Mercedes-Benz Unimog?

Because a UNIMOG has a much higher price and less terrain drivability as a Pinzgauers.
Also the UNIMOG is wider and higher as a Pinzgauer.

There are currently 2 new DAF LF' pumpers under construction at Ziegler Brandweertechniek in The Netherlands, replacement(s) for the old one on the right? http://www.zieglerbrandweertechniek.nl/projecten/tas-lancashire-gb-verlening-manschappencabine.html

Dat zie je niet vaak en leuk dat de vervanger ook weer een DAF wordt, in Nederland opgebouwd nog wel!
