MOI Statement: Ten Convicts Escape from Jau Prison

A terrorist cell of 4 to 6 members, armed with automatic rifles and pistols, was involved in an attack on the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centre (Jau) at approximately 5:30 am on Sunday January 1. The attack led to the death of a policeman, Abdulsalam Saif Ahmed. A second policeman sustained moderate injuries while confronting the terrorists. Ten inmates, all convicted in previous terrorist cases, escaped.
Meanwhile His Excellency Interior Minister, Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa ordered the formation of a committee to investigate the circumstances of the case. The security authorities immediately carried out the required procedures at the prison and its surroundings and the Public Prosecution was notified.
The investigation and search have been intensified to arrest the terrorists and the escaped convicts, who are:
1- Ahmed Mohammed Saleh Mohammed Al Shaikh, 26, serving 73 years in jail
2- Ammar Abdullah Isa Abdulhussain, 28, serving life imprisonment, in addition to 2 years
3- Mohammed Ibrahim Mulla Redhi Al Tooq, 26, serving to 28 years in jail
4- Hassan Abdullah Isa Abdulhussain, 24, serving life imprisonment
5- Isa Musa Abdullah Hassan, 24, serving life imprisonment
6- Hussain Atiyah Mohammed Saleh, 37, serving life imprisonment
7- Sadiq Jafar Salman Hussain, 27, serving life imprisonment, in addition to 41 years
8- Abdulhussain Juma Hassan Ahmed Al Onaisi, 31, serving life imprisonment
9- Redha Abdullah Isa Al Ghasra, 29, serving life imprisonment in addition to 79 years
10- Hussain Jassim Isa Jassim Al Bana, 27, serving 43 years in jail
As part of the community partnership with citizens and residents, the Interior Ministry calls upon those with any information about the escaped convicts or the terrorists who assisted them to call 999 or the hotline 80008008. All calls will be treated as anonymous.
The ministry warns against aiding or abetting escaped prisoners. Article 255 of the penal code law state: “Any person who either personally or through another provides shelter for a defendant accused in a serious crime or a felony that is punishable by imprisonment or against whom an arrest warrant has been issued, or a death sentence or a penalty involving deprivation of liberty has been passed…..”.
Qatar Condemns Armed Attack on a Prison in BahrainDoha/ Information Office/ 01 January 2017/ The State of Qatar has strongly condemned an armed attack on a prison in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which left a soldier dead while repelling the attack.
In a statement released today, the Foreign Ministry voiced Qatar's solidarity with Bahrain and its support to measures taken by Bahrain to address such despicable acts and maintain security and stability in the country.
The Ministry expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring criminals to justice.
The Ministry's statement extended sincere condolences to the leadership, government and people of Bahrain and the family of the martyr.
